Description

Nichrome Ribbon Wire

The Crazy Wire Company are best know as suppliers of top quality nichrome ribbon wire. We have enormous stock levels at all times, as we use this wire to weave our top quality woven mesh products. Our brilliant staff are experts in producing our spools of ribbon wire on our 6 rapid action winding machines. All spools are produced to carry a little extra length to make up for any waste when handling the product.

We specialise in fulfilling high volumes of smaller wire spools to suit every requirement and budget. However our master spools weigh between 1kg and 15kgs, so please contact us if you require a larger quantity – sales@wireandstuff.co.uk. We’re the place to purchase your nickel chrome high resistance wire.

Because we produce our own spools we are able to offer a wide choice of AWG and lengths. We are also able to guarantee the best prices in Europe.

Nichrome ribbon wire is widely used for its electrical heating elements so is suitable for applications that require resistance to oxidation, nichrome 80 is a non-magnetic alloy composed of nickel and chrome. As a general rule, the alloy commonly supplied contains 80% nickel and 20% chrome by weight. However, there are numerous variations available based on the basic formulation that may suit a particular application. Electric ovens, toasters and hair dryers use this element because of its relatively high electrical resistivity and resistance to oxidation.

Nichrome

Nickel chrome 80, also known as nickel alloy, is an alloy produced by combining nickel with chromium and, occasionally, iron. In addition to being heat resistant, the alloy is also resistant to corrosion and oxidation, which makes it incredibly useful for many purposes. In a wide range of commercial products, crafts and tools, nichrome in the form of wire is used.

Nickel and chromium are the main components of nichrome wire. Toasters and hair dryers use it as a heating element since it resists heat and oxidation. Ceramic sculpture and glassmaking are popular hobbies that utilise nichrome wire. In addition to laboratories, construction and specialised electronic applications, the wire can also be found in general industry.

Nicr alloys are produced using a variety of recipes depending on their intended use, but the most common form is composed of 60 percent nickel and 40 percent chromium. The properties of all nichrome alloys remain the same regardless of their ratio. When heated, nichrome forms a thin layer of chromium oxide that prevents it from oxidizing. It is resistant to both heat and corrosion in water. One of the most notable properties of nichrome is its high resistance, which causes it to heat up when an electrical current is applied to it. The characteristics of nichrome wire make it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Available Nichrome Ribbon Wire Options:

  • 0.2mm x 0.6mm – 9.21 Ohms/m
  • 0.2mm x 1mm
  • 0.3mm x 0.1mm – 36.334 Ohms/m
  • 0.3mm x 0.6mm – 6.12 Ohms/m
  • 0.4mm x 0.1mm – 27.37 Ohms/m
  • 0.5mm x 0.1mm – 21.91 Ohms/m

Resistivity Of Nichrome

An electric circuit is controlled by a resistance wire. Having a high resistivity allows you to use a shorter wire. A resistor should be selected based on its temperature coefficient of resistivity and corrosion resistance when stability is of primary importance. A high resistance and oxidation resistance are important characteristics when using this material for heating elements for electric heaters and toasters.

It is not uncommon for resistance wires to be insulated by ceramic powder and encased in tubes of another alloy as well. Heating elements of this type are used in electric ovens and water heaters, as well as in specialised forms for cooktops.

As the most common resistance wire for heating purposes, Ni80 is a non-magnetic alloy of nickel and chromium with a high resistivity and resistance to oxidation. In order to use it as a heating element, it is usually wound into coils. As nichrome wire does not bond well with tin-based electrical solder, other methods need to be used for connections to electrical power, such as crimp connectors and screw terminals.

Nickel chrome wires are commonly used as hot cutting wire.
