KA1 Resistance Round Wire

The Crazy Wire Company are best known and long established as Europe’s preferred suppliers of top quality KA1 resistance round wire. We have enormous stock levels at all times as we use this wire to weave our mesh products.

0.17mm FeCrAl A1 resistance wire is a type of electric resistance wire that is made from an iron-chromium-aluminium alloy. This type of wire is known for its high-temperature resistance and excellent oxidation resistance, making it ideal for use in high-temperature heating applications.

The wire has a round cross-section with a diameter of 0.17mm, which is relatively thin and suitable for use in applications that require fine, precise heating. It is commonly used in heating elements for household appliances, industrial furnaces, and other high-temperature applications where reliability and durability are critical.

FeCrAl A1 resistance wire is a cost-effective alternative to other high-temperature alloys such as nickel-chromium and is suitable for use in air, neutral, or reducing atmospheres. Its high melting point and excellent oxidation resistance make it a popular choice for high-temperature heating applications. Additionally, the A1 variation of FeCrAl offers higher resistance compared to other variations, making it ideal for certain applications.

FAQs About This Wire

Can I Use KA1 Wire As A Heating Element?

Yes, KA1 wire is commonly used as a heating element in a variety of applications, including industrial furnaces and electric heaters. The high resistance of KA1 wire, combined with its ability to withstand high temperatures, makes it well suited for use as a heating element.

KA1 wire is made of an iron-chromium-Aluminium (FeCrAl) alloy, which has a high melting point and excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. This makes it a durable and long-lasting heating element that can perform well in a wide range of environments.

It’s important to note that when using KA1 wire as a heating element, the wire must be properly designed and installed to ensure safe and efficient operation. This may include selecting the appropriate wire gauge, insulation, and temperature control system for the specific application, as well as taking appropriate safety measures to prevent electrical hazards.

Why Can’t Heating Elements Shock You?

Heating elements are generally not designed to shock you because they operate at low voltage and high resistance, which limits the flow of electrical current through the element.
In order to shock someone, an electrical current must flow through the body and cause muscle contractions or interfere with the normal electrical impulses in the heart. This typically requires a relatively high current, which is not present in a heating element.

Heating elements typically operate at voltages in the range of 110 to 240 volts, which is not high enough to cause a dangerous shock. Additionally, the high resistance of the heating element means that even if the heating element is accidentally touched, the current flowing through the element is not high enough to cause a shock.

It’s important to note, however, that heating elements can still pose a hazard if they are not properly installed and maintained, as they can overheat and cause fires or other electrical hazards. It’s always important to follow proper safety procedures when working with electrical equipment, including heating elements.

How Can We Cool An Element Like We Heat A Heater Coil?

To cool an element, you would need to remove heat from it rather than add heat to it like a heater coil. This can be done using various cooling techniques such as convection, conduction, or radiation, depending on the specific application and requirements. Common methods include using a refrigerant or coolant to absorb heat from the element and dissipating it elsewhere, or circulating a fluid or gas to transfer heat away from the element. Other cooling methods may involve using a heat sink, a fan, or a thermoelectric cooler to dissipate the heat generated by the element.

KA1 vs Stainless Steel?

KA1 and stainless steel are two different materials that are commonly used in the construction of heating elements. KA1 is a brand name for a type of iron-chromium-Aluminium (FeCrAl) alloy that is specifically designed for high-temperature heating applications. Stainless steel, on the other hand, is a steel alloy that contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium by mass.
Compared to stainless steel, KA1 has a higher maximum operating temperature, typically up to 1400°C, which makes it suitable for use in high-temperature applications such as furnace heating elements. KA1 also has a higher electrical resistance per unit length compared to stainless steel, which allows for the creation of heating elements with higher resistance values, and thus higher temperatures.

Stainless steel, on the other hand, is generally more corrosion-resistant than KA1, which can make it a better choice for some applications where the element may be exposed to corrosive environments. Additionally, stainless steel has a lower resistance per unit length than KA1, which can be an advantage in some applications where a lower resistance is desired.
